Position Summary

Nomad is looking for a talented Fleet Manager to join our team. Nomad’s fleet consists of both company owned vehicles as well as managed third party vehicles. Vehicles primarily consist of (i) heavy-duty tractors and various trailers, (ii) lighter tonnage containerized trucks and (iii) company cars. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing and managing Nomad’s fleet. This includes fleet transport operations, fleet maintenance, fleet inspection, equipment procurement and maintenance, driver training and management. The position requires a high level of organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. The candidate will have ample opportunity to help shape the structure and strategy of Nomad’s Fleet management and most importantly will help the Company build a reputation of reliability and excellence in the market.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of Nomad’s fleet, including managing driver, dispatching trucks, and coordinating loads to ensure timely and efficient operations. Strategically manage and oversee the execution of Nomad Fleet Transport Operations on behalf of Nomad’s customers
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of the company’s fleet of vehicles, ensuring that vehicles are properly serviced, and repairs are promptly addressed to in a cost effective manner to minimize downtime and maximize safety.
  • Develop contingency plans and protocols to address emergencies, accidents, breakdowns, or other unforeseen events. Coordinate with drivers and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective issue management.
  • Develop and implement fleet management systems, procedures, and logs to manage, control, and execute all company fleet programs
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and laws, including safety requirements, vehicle registration, licensing, and insurance requirements
  • Manage and maintain the fleet budget, including the tracking of expenses, forecasting future costs, and identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Utilize tracking software and other tools to monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics, such as vehicle utilization, fuel consumption, and driver behavior, and implement strategies to improve performance
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, such as mechanical repair centers, parts suppliers, and other service technicians to ensure that quality services, parts, and equipment are procured at competitive prices
  • Directly manage, hire, and evaluate company drivers as a first-line supervisor
  • Develop and implement training modules for vehicle, equipment use and care
  • Conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections of third party trucks
  • Prepare and submit necessary reporting as per company guidelines
  • Maintain high level of health and safety in all operations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications Required

  • Four-year engineering or logistics degree from an accredited university
  • 5+ years working experience in fleet and driver management of heavy-duty trucks and trailers
  • Hands-on workshop and maintenance experience with heavy-duty trucks and trailers
  • Strong technical and mechanical knowledge of heavy-duty trucks and trailers
  • Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance programs and best practices
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols, driver training, and relevant regulations and standards
  • Proficiency in utilizing vehicle tracking and fleet management software or ERP systems
  • Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Excellent problem prevention and incident management skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Must speak and write Proficient English
  • Proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to travel within Ghana and internationally as required
