Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Manager to join our team. As a Pharmacy Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical services to our patients.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage and supervise a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations governing the practice of pharmacy, including maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Oversee the dispensing of medications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to prescription guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory levels and order medications and supplies as needed to maintain adequate stock.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to promote optimal patient care and medication management.
  •  Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve pharmacy operations, efficiency, and patient safety.
  • Resolve customer and patient concerns and complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in pharmacy practice, including new medications, drug interactions, and regulatory changes.
  •  Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain licensure and enhance professional competence.
  •  Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and effective communication among pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide good quality Pharmaceutical care to Patients/Clients in the pharmacy within agreed policies and standards.

Additional Duties:

  • Ensure that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for dispensing prescriptions are scrupulously followed.
  •  Collaborate with members of the pharmaceutical support team to ensure that the treatment and management of simple ailments of common occurrence in the pharmacy comply with the Standard Treatment Guidelines, Essential Medicines List, approved treatment protocols, and existing laws and policies.
  • Provide enhanced pharmaceutical services such as RDT (malaria, blood glucose, blood cholesterol, urine pregnancy test etc) , BP monitoring etc.
  • Provide clients with relevant drug information to enhance optimum therapeutic outcomes including the selection and appropriate use of over-the-counter medicines.
  •  Monitor adverse medicines reactions and report to the Food and Drugs Authority.
  • Monitor and control narcotic and psychotropic substances in accordance with law and keep the Dangerous Drugs Register (DDR) updated at all times.
  • Initiate and participate in the drug procurement process in the pharmacy.
  • Handle and store medicines including vaccines and sera safely and securely in the pharmacy according to existing guidelines.
  • Monitor stock levels and expiry dates of medicines on regular basis to ensure that medicines do not expire on the shelves; and if they do they are disposed off in accordance with established procedures and are not dispensed to clients.
  • Actively participate in the recruitment process of pharmacy personnel.
  •  Facilitate in-service training programmes for pharmaceutical support staff.
  • Closely supervise the activities of pharmaceutical support staff in the pharmacy.

Requirements:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or (PharmD) from an accredited institution.
  • Current pharmacist license
  •  Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a superintendent pharmacist, with demonstrable leadership and management skills and capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, including prescription processing, inventory management, and medication safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, healthcare providers, and other team members.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to make sound decisions and resolve complex issues.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all aspects of pharmacy practice.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset, goal-driven disposition with a focus on providing exceptional patient care.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy software and technology systems.
  •  Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, evenings and weekends, as needed.
