Job Description
Role Summary
The Operations Manager oversees the entire operational processes, teams, facilities and equipment within the company.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Execute strategies for the operations department of Amaris
- Terminal, in line with & contributing to the company vision.
- Deliver a level of service to customers that is equal to best international standards.
- Ensure a cost efficient operation in excess current best practices.
- Liaise closely with shipping companies, customs agents, trucking companies, Customs, port authorities, and other statutory authorities to ensure that their requirements are met.
- Responsible for the training and developments of all line managers within the Operations team with regards to advanced operations strategies and new technology.
- Achieve the Company’s and its customer’s expectations with regard to operational efficiency,
Productivity and reliability.
- Manage employee performance issues including training, appraisals, discipline and grievances.
Budget
- Responsible for setting and achieving the budget for the Operations Division while Assisting Commercial team with all necessary value chain information for sales and marketing projections and delivery.
Information Technology
- The Operations Manager is expected to improve existing methodologies, processes and measurements when executing duties.
- Contribute input to development in technology & systems as applicable to improve efficiencies in cost, productivity & customer service.
HSSE/ Risk management
- Ensure compliance with HSSE policies & procedures by all operational staff.
- Enforce safe working practices and ensure lost time injuries are kept to a minimum.
Procurement/ Inventory Management
- Oversee and supervise the procurement function of the operations including compliance to budget, property/facility management, and provision of furnishings and equipment necessary for effective operations
- Participate in selection, negotiation & finalizing agreements with suppliers & customers & where appropriate be responsible for execution 8 maintenance of service levels as agreed.
- Oversee the financial aspect of all leases, contracts and other financial commitments.
- To provide controls and be held accountable for inventory, fuel, and sundry expenditure within the department.
Education and Experience
- University degree or college diploma (HND) in Business, Port Administration, Logistics and Supply Chain, or Business Management/Administration
Professional Certification
- Masters in MBA/ MSC in Business, Operations or Supply Chain Management.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of container terminal industry/ Shipping/ Freight-forwarding/ industry and the Port processes is essential.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation affecting
- Shipping, Trucking, Port Management and SCM
- Basic Knowledge of provincial legislation on Employment Standards, Occupational Health and Safety will be a plus.
Proficiency in Systems:
- Operational Software, Word processing, Excel, E-mail, Internet.

- Leadership Traits: Positively influence others to achieve results and assess situations to determine clear decisions which are in the best interests of the organization. Experience: 7 to 10 years of progressive Operational / Supply Chain.
