ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

4Ward Development West Africa (4WardWA), formerly known as Access Development is a well-established Safe Water Enterprise (SWE) with business subsidiaries in Ghana and Uganda that provide safe water services at a District-Wide Scale. With over a decade experience in providing safe water to more than 600,000 people through 2,000 water points across Africa by 2006, our goal is to exceed the expectations of rural and peri-urban customers by consistently delivering high-quality water. We pioneered the implementation of an innovative water system with our Numa model together with owners, Water4 (a Non-profit organization). 4Ward WA, a subsidiary of Water4 is a wholly owned for-profit Subsidiaries of Water4, Inc.

The 4WardWA suite of water solutions is designed to provide safe water tailored to consumer demand, including: hand-pumps with professional management, public retail points, and private water connections for households, schools, clinics, and businesses.

4WardWA has current operations in the Wassa East district, Western region, Ghana, where we have provided the entire district with access to safe water and adjourning communities in the Komenda, Edna-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipal. This is in partnership with Water4, The Dutch Government (RVO), Hilton Foundation, Wassa East District Assembly, and many other partners. 4WardWA is scaling up its operations in Upper West and Savanna Regions in 2022 in partnership Water4, Helmsley Trust Foundation and Global Communities, with more partners to come as part of our strategy to provide three districts in these regions with safe water services.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Utility and Maintenance Manager, the Electrical Technician will provide electrical engineering support and handle installation, general maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical equipment as well as designing of solar and electrical systems as defined by the Utility and Maintenance Manager in accordance with 4Ward guidelines and policies.

S/he will lead electrical works and provide guidance to other staff designated to assist with solar and electric installations as well as inspection and evaluation of electrical/electronic systems on pumps, inverters, solar panels, panel boards, batteries, electrical equipment, and all forms of controls.

S/he will be required to ensure installation works conform to 4Ward Development standards and support the Supervisor in ongoing and new projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the assembling, installation, testing, and maintenance of all electrical equipment/ electronic appliances particularly 4ward designed electrical box components in kiosks systems and pump stations.

  • Inspects and rectifies faults circuit breakers and other electrical components in the electric box during routine maintenance.

  • Designing and assembling solar panel systems in accordance with safety codes and standards.

  • In charge of onsite wiring, monitoring, and mounting of the solar energy.

  • Perform routine PV system maintenance on modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural systems, weather sealing, or balance of systems equipment.

  • Experience in safely handling tools and materials including, but not limited to inverters, solar panels, panel boards, batteries, electrical equipment preferred.

  • Undertake regular or periodic inspection, testing and servicing of various electrical equipment in the water kiosk and at the various pump stations.

  • Maintain records of jobs performed and report to supervisors.

  • Understand and promote general workplace safety and the ability to follow safety standards as well as help the company improve upon the standards in place.

  • Assist other team members as needed.

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

QUALIFICATION

EDUCATION

  • The minimum requirement is BSc/HND in Electrical Engineering or any other related field.

  • Electrical Wiring Professionals Certification (CEWPs) is a plus.

  • Advanced knowledge in Solar Energy/Photovoltaic systems is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in electrical wiring and installations.

  • Must be proficient in electricity distribution line works.

  • Lower education can apply but must have over ten (10) years of working experience with Electrical works and certified by the Ghana Energy Commission can equally apply.

REPORTING

The Bagging Machine Operator (BMO) will report to and work closely with the Facility Maintenance

Officer (FMO).

WORKING CONDITION

Field Environment: Must live in Daboase, Takoradi, and surrounding areas.

Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours per day. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 10 pounds.

he total working hours in a week is 40 hours. Should work be done during evenings and weekends, the Electrical Technician will be compensated with an equal amount of time off.

Travel Requirements: 90% travel is required for this role.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Work in a team to install solar panels and electrical components in our water kiosks and pump stations.

  • Prepare, load, and organize materials and vehicles for installations.

  • Ability to work at heights, on roofs, and on steel structures.

  • Ability to drive vehicles in a safe and conscientious manner with a valid driver’s license

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Applies a professional, confidential, and ethical approach at all times.

  • Ability to work independently, thrive under pressure in challenging circumstances and come up with proactive and rational solutions.

  • Ability to climb, kneel, crouch, crawl, stoop and twist and perform duties, using appropriate tools and equipment within safety standards.

  • Experience in Photo voltaic (PV)/grid hybrid systems network wiring and controls

  • Able to read, understand and implements blueprints.

  • Ability to work on domestic, commercial and industrial electrical wiring systems.

  • Proficiency in English and local dialects of the assigned area (Fante or Twi) required.
