Job Description

Job Title: Credit Manager

A Credit Manager plays a crucial role in managing an organization’s credit policies and ensuring the effective management of credit risk.

Responsibilities:

1. Credit Policy Development:
a. Develop, implement, and update credit policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

2. Credit Risk Assessment:
a. Evaluate the creditworthiness of potential customers by analyzing financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant information.
b. Determine credit limits and terms for customers based on risk assessment.

3. Credit Approval and Review:
a. Make decisions on credit applications, either approving or denying credit to customers.
b. Regularly review existing credit accounts to assess ongoing creditworthiness.

4. Credit Monitoring:
a. Monitor customer accounts to identify any changes in credit risk.
b. Set up and manage credit monitoring systems to track customer payment patterns and behaviors.

5. Collections Management:
a. Oversee the collection process for overdue accounts.
b. Work closely with collections teams to recover outstanding payments while maintaining customer relationships.

6. Credit Reporting:
a. Prepare and submit regular credit reports to management, highlighting key credit metrics and potential risks.
b. Ensure compliance with credit reporting regulations.

7. Credit Analysis:
a. Conduct financial analysis and risk assessments to identify potential credit issues and propose solutions.
b. Provide recommendations for credit enhancements or modifications.

8. Collaboration:
a. Work closely with sales, finance, and other departments to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to credit management.
b. Collaborate with legal teams on credit-related issues and disputes.

9. Compliance:
a. Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations governing credit management.
b. Ensure all credit-related activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

1. Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. A masters degree is a plus
o Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., ICAG, ACCA) may be preferred.

2. Experience:
o Six years or more experience in credit management, risk assessment, or a related field in the financial institution is preferred
o Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role may be required.
