POSITION TITLE: HSE Advisor

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Contract

LOCATION: Ahafo South

POSITION REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Process Maintenance

The role in a nutshell:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) support and guidance to our employees and shutdown team on our client mining site to ensure compliance with our client company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Advise on HSE best practices and procedures to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Health and Safety:

  • Conduct risk assessments and site inspections to identify hazards and recommend controls.
  • Develop and implement HSE procedures and guidelines.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses and provide recommendations for prevention.

Environmental:

  • Monitor and report on environmental performance and compliance.
  • Develop and implement environmental management plans and procedures

Training and Awareness:

  • Provide HSE training and awareness programs for employees and shutdown team.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and encourage employee participation in HSE initiatives.
  • Attend daily safety meetings.

Compliance and Auditing:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Conduct internal audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Prepare and submit HSE reports to management and regulatory bodies.
  • Communicate HSE information and updates to employees, shutdown team, and stakeholders.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is located at the Newmont Ahafo South
  • Site based, working hours 6am to 6pm
  •  5/2 roster.

Formal qualification (including professional registrations)

Qualifications:
• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Relevant certification (e.g. OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001).

Experience:

• Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in HSE roles, preferably in the mining industry.
• Sound understanding of safety management systems.
• Detailed knowledge of relevant local Health and Safety legislative requirements.
• Sound knowledge and experience in risk management and loss prevention processes

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of HSE principles and practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectivel

• Advance computer literacy skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
• Sound conflict management skills.
• Sound information monitoring and management skills.
• Sound planning, organizing and prioritizing skills.
