Health and Safety Officer
Location: Kumasi

Job description

Management System:
1. Develops and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with state rules and regulations as they apply to the organization’s operations;
2. Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and rules;
Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment:
3. Ensure that all hazardous activities are analyzed and required preventive measures are implemented;
4. Ensure timely Safety equipment inspection whether internally or by contractors;
Training Programs:
5. Develop, implement and maintain employee training programs as indicated by regulatory guidelines, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
6. Coordinate with HR on compliance to Training requirements;
7. Continuous Improvement: Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks raise safety awareness and improve safe work practices;
Reporting:
8. Ensure compliance with timely reporting as required by health safety regulations and statutes;
9. Maintain Health and Safety reports;
10. Perform safety surveys and inspections, prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective and preventative measures, and follow up on task completion.
Incident Management
11. Analyze Incident data and recommend actions to avoid Incidents across the organization;
12. Develop and implement efficient operations emergency response plans and ensure compliance with state regulations.
13. Provide support to the execution of all operation emergency response plans and manage all emergency situations and design solutions to all issues.

Qualifications

Strong knowledge of local health and safety regulations and standards
Ability to conduct risk assessments and audits
Experience in developing safety procedures and protocols
Experience in providing health and safety training to employees
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, or related field
Professional certification such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or IOSH is preferred
