Hiring Summary

Wikimedia Ghana User Group is a nonprofit affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation, the company which hosts Wikipedia and its sister wikis.

The affiliate has a community of volunteers and other members who improve and promote Wikimedia wikis in Ghana – especially the English and other Ghanaian languages Wikipedias.

Our mission is to empower people in Ghana to create and share educational content under a free license or in the public domain. We have been doing this work since 2012.

Our nonprofit seeks an Administrative Assistant to support the nonprofit’s leadership and operations.

 

​​We are looking for an assistant with relevant experience in areas as follows:

  1. Personal or administrative assistance
  2. Wikimedia Movement
  3. Digital media communications: social media management, newsletters, blogging
  4. Other communications: press kits, office correspondence
  5. Academia, Nonprofit or Technology (digital)
  6. Modern work tools: Google Workspace, Trello, Slack etc
  7. Report writing
  8. Event coordination
  9. Secretarial work

You are responsible for

Supporting operations of the nonprofit by handling diverse administrative, secretarial, communications and support tasks.

 

You will be required to employ modern work tools like: Google Workspace products including Gmail, the entire Google Drive suite and Google Calendar; Mail Chimp to send newsletters; Wikimedia project wikis; social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn to promote the group; Telegram and Whatsapp groups and project management tools like Trello, Asana and so on. You should have experience with these tools.

Working Hours

  • FTE equivalent
  • Mondays-Fridays 9:00 am – 5.30 pm with mandatory 1 hour for lunch/screentime break
  • Saturdays and public holidays included if there is a training event

Compensation and benefits

Probationary Period

 

The first 2 months of your employment will constitute probationary time. This is not a training period for the core skills of an assistant, as we believe the experience you presented in your application is honest. Rather, during this time, your performance and suitability for the position will be assessed.

Compensation during probation:

  • Salary: ¢2500 (net) per month
  • Discretionary transportation allowance: ¢500 per month to cater for fare increases and Saturday events

 

Post-Probation – Permanent Employment

 

  • Salary: ¢3000 (net) per month
  • Discretionary transportation allowance to cater for Saturday and holiday events
  • Social security and income taxes covered
  • Wellness reimbursement amounting to ¢5000 every 12 months OR Private Health Insurance (whichever is preferred)
