Job Description
Tax Manager:
The Tax Manager’s position typically involves overseeing and managing the tax planning and compliance activities. The Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations while optimizing tax strategies to minimize clients’ tax liabilities.
Tax Planning: Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize clients’ tax position, minimize tax liabilities, and maximize tax benefits.
- Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Tax Return Preparation: Oversee the preparation and review of various tax returns, including corporate income tax, value added tax, statutory levies, and payroll tax filings.
- Tax Research: Conduct in-depth tax research and analysis on complex tax issues, interpreting tax laws and regulations to provide guidance and support to clients.
- Tax Audit Support: Manage and support tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, including responding to information requests, preparing documentation, and representing clients during the audit process.
- Tax Provisioning: Coordinate and oversee the preparation of tax provisions and financial statement disclosures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, such as the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Tax Risk Management: Identify and assess tax risks and exposures, develop strategies to mitigate risks, and implement internal controls to ensure compliance.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, audit and legal, to provide tax guidance and support on business initiatives, acquisitions, and restructurings.
- Tax Strategy Development: Work closely with senior management to develop and implement tax strategies aligned with the Firm’s business goals.
- Industry and Regulatory Knowledge: Stay up to date with changes in tax legislation, regulations, and industry trends, and assess their impact on clients’ tax positions and strategies.
Qualifications
- Education and Certification: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Tax Practitioner (MCIT) are highly desirable.
- Tax Experience: Extensive experience in tax compliance and planning, preferably in a public accounting firm or a corporate tax department or the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
- Tax Knowledge: Strong knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, including a deep understanding of the GRA’s practice notes.
- Leadership and Team Management: Proven leadership and team management skills to oversee a team of tax professionals, delegate tasks, provide guidance and support, and foster a collaborative work environment.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess complex tax situations, identify tax planning opportunities, and evaluate tax risks and exposures.
- Communication and Presentation Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate tax concepts, strategies, and recommendations to clients at all levels, including senior management and tax reviewers.
- Project Management: Demonstrated project management skills to manage multiple tax projects simultaneously, set priorities, meet deadlines, and allocate resources effectively.
